So you’ve been thinking about booking family photos, but maybe you’re wondering…
what actually happens at a session?
What do we wear? What if my kids don’t cooperate? (Spoiler: they will be adorable, no matter what).
Don’t worry—I’ve got you.
I put together this little FAQ with all the things families usually ask me before their shoot so you’ll feel totally prepared—and maybe even excited—to get in front of the camera.

Family Photoshoot FAQ
What even is a lifestyle family session?
Think of it as “real life, but prettier.” It’s not stiff poses or everyone looking at the camera the whole time. It’s you snuggling your babies, tickling toes, chasing kids through a field, or piling on the couch together. I’ll guide you a bit, but the magic happens in the in-between moments.
What should we wear?
Wear what feels good. If you’re uncomfortable, it’ll show. Neutrals and soft colors always photograph beautifully, and it’s better to coordinate than to match. (So maybe not everyone in jeans and white shirts 😉). Layers, textures, flowy dresses, and knits are always a win. Oh—and avoid big logos and neon.
What if my kids go wild?
That’s normal and honestly where the best photos come from. If your toddler wants to twirl, run, or cling to your leg—I’ll work with it. I promise we’ll get gorgeous photos even if it feels a little chaotic in the moment.
How long will this take?
About 30 minutes to an hour, depending which collection you choose. Long enough to capture all the good stuff, short enough that no one melts down (including the grown-ups).
Where do we do the photos?
You get to choose! Outdoors at a pretty spot (fields, mountain backdrops, parks, you name it), a studio, or at your own home where everyone’s most relaxed. I’ll help you pick the best option for your family.
When’s the best time of day?
If we’re outside, I’ll always suggest golden hour—either right after sunrise or before sunset. The light is soft and glowy and just makes everything look dreamy. Indoors, I’ll usually suggest late morning when your home is naturally bright.
Can we bring the dog?
Yes, yes, yes. Pets are family too. Just give me a heads-up so we can plan.
*Note - if it's at a private venue, I will message them to confirm.
Will you pose us?
A little, but not in a “tilt your chin 2 inches and freeze” way. I’ll set you up in good light, then give you things to do together so it feels natural—like “snuggle in close” or “walk towards me holding hands.” The result: photos that feel like you.
What if it rains?
We’ll reschedule. Easy as that. Or we can always move things indoors.
How long until we see photos?
I’ll deliver your gallery in about 2–3 weeks. It’ll be a private online gallery where you can download, share, and order prints.
Can grandparents join in?
Of course! The Keepsake Collection is grandparents with grandkids and The Narrative Collection is for full family/extended family. Just let me know so I can build in extra time and groupings.
How do we get ready?
Feed the kids, make sure they’re rested, and then let go of the pressure to be perfect. You just get to love on your people—I’ll take care of the rest.

At the end of the day, family photos aren’t about perfect smiles or matching outfits
—they’re about remembering this season of life with the people you love most. If your heart’s been nudging you to finally book that family session, consider this your sign.
Let’s make it happen—
you’ll never regret having these memories documented.
